Public transport is good but could be improved by buses having the ability to carry bicycles. I realise this may not be feasable in capital cities due to the number of services and disruption it may cause, besides (in QLD at least) bicycles can be taken on trains. However, in some regional areas this would improve accessibility.
In my area, in order to take a bike on coaches (not local bus services) one must disassemble the bike and put it into a 'bike box' which has been previously obtained.
What do others think? Would it be worthwhile for bus companies to look into this?

Definitely should be more options for Bikes on Buses , I guess the problem is the safety issue in how to stow them safely with minimum hassle

Obviously I didn't mean that bikes should be in the bus with the passengers. I had to take my bike on the bus once when there was a problem with the train line. Luckily there weren't many passengers so I was able to stay at the back without bothering too many people. Getting on and off was a bit of a hassle though.
Coaches have room for luggage which perhaps could be modified to fit a few bikes. Alternatively they could have some sort of bike rack on the front or back of the bus. When i left Brisbane there were a couple of routes that had buses with bike racks on the front of the bus.

Hawaii has a scheme where you can clip a bike on the front of the bus, easy to do and doesn't seem to cause any delays. Little provision is made for bikes in the Sydney Metro area but on the long distance trains there's a hook to hang them on in the vestibule area, you do need to sit where you can keep an eye on them though.
