My name is mark feltrin and my intrest in sustainability goes back a long way.

I am a natural resoursce manager by trade and currently i help run a company making gasifiers for bioenergy production and also i have a farm where i am developing a indigenous forestry system for energy and manufacture based around our companies gasifier for energy production.
My inrests are in the advancement of landscape management with a focus of energy production creating improved biodiversity and social outcomes. I noticed in the renewables section there was no mention of bioenergy - there is bad bioenergy practice but there is also exellent examples and huge potential particulalry in combining environment with social benefits - hopefully this forum might take off so please question away.

What I also saw missing was any reference to population. This is the single most fundermental issue in regards to sustainability. Without self management of human populations then the concept of sustainability is false. An exellent reference is www.population.org.au

So what is a sustainable future - this is not a abstract concept but tangible one.
firstly a stable population base that is within the limit of a given region biological capacity.
In terms of terms of urban environments more compact medium density housing so by leveraging the effieiceny gains of less distance - particulalry for trasport. With intensive food growing surounding these urban areas.
Energy in particular regards to electricity will begin steer away from the centralised model to the deverisifed and decentralised. Energy in regard to liquid production will become more expensive thus bioenergy sources through second generation production will become more common............................................ ..............................

I could and will go on more in future posts but that is for future discussions.

The future is both dire and incredibly promising. Many will fall but also many will rise and adapt to a susutanable future on a tainted planet - made tainted by humans.

I wish this forum well

Have fun mark

Thanks for your post Mark and will look at the ideas you have for addtional forums however at this stage the number of forums out number the number of members so will probably wait a while. I will add a section for Forum suggestions and ideas where you re-post your ideas in case I forget!
Cheers
